I remember when I was only small,
Seeing men with medals, walking strong and tall.
I remember the sound of the medals jingling when they walked.
I didn't fully understand, but at that age, how could you?
I grew older, now I understand,
These men with medals fought for the safety of our land.
These were only a few of them; Some didn't return.
A small tear welled up as I thought of them.
I could imagine the screaming of the guns, the number of troops that died.
However, I could never imagine how much the news made their loved ones cry.
I pictured the blood pooling near the trenches, young men dying for their mates,
I started to shiver.
Boys as young as 14 lied about their age to protect us,
to represent Australia and to save us.
The sad thing was that many never came home,
and their bodies rest on the foreign shores.
But maybe it's better if we let the deceased rest with their mates
and leave them in that final resting place.
They may have left their bodies behind,
but their spirit lives on.
As I marched today I began to ponder,
I saw children, their faces full of wonder.
One day, I thought, they'll understand this.
Another tear welled up.
As I grow older and older I wonder what my future will be.
But I know that, because of these troops, our country is free.
I may get old and lose most of my memory,
But I promise, on April the 25th, I'll never forget the lives we lost.
I WON'T FORGET YOU...

Comments
Ack, I joined a few months too late to be able to march in our parade ... still went though.

When flying, try to stay in the middle of the air. Do not go near the edges of it. The edges of the air can be recognized by the appearance of ground, buildings, sea, trees and interstellar space. It is much more difficult to fly there.
